Training Schedule

We offer friendly, helpful and structured coaching and are here to help triathletes of all abilities.

Our coaches run training sessions to help work on your fitness and technique, as well as introduce you to a friendly group of people to train with on a regular basis.

We offer up to three trial sessions before you are required to join, to see if triathlon is for you, contact us by email if you are interested in a ‘Taster Session’.

*Please note that whilst the coaching provided is free to members, you will need to pay for pool entry. 

Any changes will be noted in the newsletter email or on the Facebook Page.

We regularly provide separate coached courses and competitions during the year. Please keep an eye on the news pages for future courses. Previous courses have included:

–     Annual 10 week Introduction to Triathlon Courses 

–     Coached hill climbing cycling and running sessions

–     Annual ‘King of the Mountains’ cycling competition

–     Summer time trial series

–    Days Brick Session training course run by nationally recognized Level 3 coach Andy Bullock (A brick session is two or more disciplines combined into a single training session).

All of our coaches offer their time on a voluntary basis, we are really proud to have such a great team.


Coaching Staff

Sarah Kemp – Head Coach

Relevant qualifications  - Triathlon England Level 3.   UK Athletics Level 1. BSc Sports Science and Physiology; MSc Sports Science. Swim Smooth Coach Education Course. Paratriathlon CPD course

Triathlon / Swim / Bike/ Run experience -  Sarah started coaching with the club in 2011 and became head coach in 2013. In addition to being head coach at STC, Sarah coaches for the South West Triathlon Academy –supporting the region’s top youth and junior triathletes and leading on coaching the regions top paratriathletes.  Sarah also coaches privately on a 1-2-1 basis.  

As an athlete, Sarah first raced triathlon in 2009 following a number of years doing long distance running. Sarah has raced in sprint to middle distance and represented GB in Age Group World Champs in 2012 and 2013. 

Interests (aside from triathlon) - Touch rugby; eating out; Spotify addict; Game of Thrones!

Katie West 

Relevant qualifications  - Level 2 triathlon coach qualification: awarding body BTF

Leader in Running Fitness: awarding body England athletic. First aid certificate   

Triathlon / Swim / Bike/ Run experience  - From a running back ground I came to triathlon in 2012 after buying a road bike and starting swimming lessons. My first tri-club experience was the STC hill climbing championship. Since then I have competed in a number of triathlons ranging from sprint to half iron man distance. 

Interests (aside from triathlon) - I enjoy walking and the outdoors in general and spending time with my family. 

Forest Paget 

Relevant qualifications  - 
Level 1 triathlon coach qualification: awarding body BTF

Triathlon / Swim / Bike/ Run experience  - Started triathlon in 2013 after a number of years running & cycling.Previously rowed in 4s and 8s winning the Boston (UK) rowing marathon in 1999. 

Interests (aside from triathlon) - Running a business, staff coaching and mentoring.

Barry Davis

Relevant qualifications
Level 1 triathlon coach qualification: awarding body BTF

Triathlon / Swim / Bike/ Run experience  - Barry took part in the Intro to Tri course with the club in 2012 and started coaching with the club in 2016. Barry did his first Sprint Tri in 2013 and since has done Triathlons up to Middle Distance. 

Before this Barry had completed in running races, everything from 5k - Marathon.

Interests (aside from triathlon) - Music, reading and a bit of gardening

Simon Botting

Relevant qualifications
   - Level 2 triathlon coach qualification: awarding body BTF

Strength & Conditioning CPD (pending)

Triathlon / Swim / Bike/ Run experience  - Simon took part in the Intro to Tri course with the club in 2014 and started coaching with the club in 2014.  He took part in his first sprint triathlon race in 2014 in his home city of Winchester.  

As an athlete, Simon has competed on behalf as a runnerfor the Royal Air Force (in his younger days!), raced for several years in Endurance Karting and in 2016 competed in the annual 24 Hour Le Mans Kart Race for the Civil Service. 

Interests (aside from triathlon) - Karting; VW Campers and camping; photography; touch rugby

Alan Bayliss

Relevant Qualifications - Level 1 triathlon coach qualification:(in progress)

Coaching / Triathlon / Swim / Bike / Run experience - Alan competed in his first sprint triathlon in 2014, but has a history of participation in other sports including swimming, cycling (both road racing and time trialing), football, hockey to club level and is a 2nd Dan black belt and former instructor in Shotokan Karate. He is now focused on middle and long distance triathlon and is also currently club secretary.

Interests outside triathlon - Cycling (does that count?), cooking, classical history, IT (work) and Sci-Fi/Comedy Horror films (zombies!!)
